A Baby’s Pain In Word
I see it in your eyes, where joy once gathered like morning light,
fear has built its quiet home.
I see it in the way your days unfold,
each step measured against the possibility of another goodbye.
Mum…
I cannot bring him back.
And I cannot become him.
I miss him too, though my memories of him are only scattered fragments,
small enough to fit inside a child’s heart,
yet heavy enough to last a lifetime.
I miss the days when your lap was wide enough to cradle us both,
when your embrace knew no absence.
Sometimes it feels as though half of your soul departed with him,
leaving only echoes behind.
Mum…
I am still here.
Look at me.
See me again.
Hold me, not as a reminder of what you lost,
but as the child you still have.
Let my heartbeat call you back to life.
I need your smile.
I need your arms.
I need your love to find its way home again.
Please…
Don’t leave me in the hands of strangers each time illness finds me.
Let it be your hand that cools my forehead,
your voice that quiets my fear,
your embrace that reminds me,
I have not lost my mother too.
