I did film it under the rain... holding the umbrella with one hand, and the camera with the other one... tried to be still like a tripod, while resisting the shivering cold through a double layer rain jacket...
I did many walks under the rain, but this was the first time I do it for a purpose beside feeling good... I didn't win the competition to go somewhere colder, but won a Winter Music CD... Who knows maybe listening to music in a calm place like home, will make me feel the snow flakes falling on my head... at the end all feelings are generated in the same place wherever the stimulus is...

With high winds, a powerful storm surge, and torrential rains, Cyclone Yasi churned the waters of the Coral Sea off Australia’s Queensland coast. On February 4, 2011, as the clouds began to clear, evidence of the storm’s violence lingered in the water. The normally clear, shallow water of the Great Barrier Reef was clouded with sediment brought to the surface in the turbulent water.

Light reflects off the light-colored sediment, turning the ocean electric blue. Sections of the reef are visible amid the clouded water. The reef has well-defined shapes and is greener than its surroundings. The section of reef shown here is near Whitsunday Island National Park. The large image, which shows a wider area, reveals sediment in the water along much of the coast.

Superstitions Rooted in Bible and More
Friday the 13th superstitions are rooted in ancient bad-luck associations with the number 13 and the day Friday, said Donald Dossey, a folklore historian and author of Holiday Folklore, Phobias and Fun.

The two unlucky entities ultimately combined to make one super unlucky day.

Dossey traces the fear of the number 13—aka, triskaidekaphobia—to a Norse myth about 12 gods having a dinner party at Valhalla, Norse mythology's heaven. In walked the uninvited 13th guest, the mischievous god Loki. Once there, Loki arranged for Hoder, the blind god of darkness, to shoot Balder the Beautiful, the god of joy and gladness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow.

"Balder died, and the whole Earth got dark. The whole Earth mourned. It was a bad, unlucky day," Dossey said.

There is also a biblical reference to the unlucky number 13. Judas, the apostle said to have betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to the Last Supper. (See "Lost Gospel Revealed; Says Jesus Asked Judas to Betray Him.")

As for Friday, it's well known among Christians as the day Jesus was crucified. Some biblical scholars believe Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit on Friday. Perhaps most significant is a belief that Abel was slain by his brother Cain on Friday the 13th.

Meanwhile, in ancient Rome, witches reportedly gathered in groups of 12. The 13th was believed to be the devil.

In modern times, many triskaidekaphobes point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.

Thomas Fernsler, an associate policy scientist in the Mathematics and Science Education Resource Center at the University of Delaware in Newark, said the number 13 suffers because of its position after 12.

According to Fernsler, numerologists consider 12 a "complete" number. There are 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 apostles of Jesus.

In exceeding 12 by 1, Fernsler said 13's association with bad luck "has to do with just being a little beyond completeness. The number becomes restless or squirmy"—not unlike some folks with triskaidekaphobia today.

Paralyzed by Friday the 13th Superstitions
Some people are so paralyzed by Friday the 13th superstitions that they refuse to fly, buy a house, or act on a hot stock tip, for example.
"It's been estimated that [U.S] $800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day because people will not fly or do business they would normally do," said Dossey, the historian, who is also the founder of the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina.
Among other services, Dossey's organization counsels clients on how to Friday the 13th superstitions, which fuel a phobia that he estimates afflicts 17 to 21 million people in the United States.
Symptoms range from mild anxiety to full-blown panic attacks. The latter may cause people to reshuffle schedules or miss an entire day's work.
When it comes to bad luck of any kind, Richard Wiseman—a psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, England—found that people who consider themselves unfortunate are more likely to believe in superstitions associated with bad luck.
"Their beliefs and behavior are likely to be part of a much bigger worldview," he said. "They will believe that luck is a magical force and that it can ruin their lives."

Triskaidekaphobia can even be seen in how societies are built. More than 80 percent of high-rise buildings lack a 13th floor. Many airports skip the 13th gate. Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13.
On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 1/2. In France socialites known as the quatorziens ("fourteeners") once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
DePauw University's Dudley said nobody really knows why Friday the 13th has spawned so many superstitions.
"You've got to have something that is unlucky, and somehow they hit on 13," he said. "But all these explanations are just moonshine."

Prozac Pollution Making Shrimp Reckless

There's no happy ending for shrimp exposed to the mood-booster Prozac, according to a new study.

Remnants of antidepressant drugs flushed into waterways worldwide are altering shrimp behavior and making them easier prey, experts say.

To mimic conditions in the wild, scientists exposed the estuary-dwelling shrimp Echinogammarus marinus to the antidepressant fluoxetine at levels detected in average sewage-treatment waste. Fluoxetine is the key ingredient in the drugs Prozac and Sarafem.

Shrimp normally gravitate toward safe, dark corners. But when exposed to fluoxetine, the animals were five times more likely to swim toward a bright region of water, the team discovered.

"This behavior makes them much more likely to be eaten by a predator, such as a fish or bird," said study co-author Alex Ford, a biologist at U.K.'s University of Portsmouth.

The fluoxetine likely makes shrimp's nerves more sensitive to serotonin, a brain chemical known to alter moods and sleep patterns, according to the study, recently published in the journal Aquatic Toxicology.

Prozac Rise May Harm Other Animals

Antidepressant use is rising rapidly—more than 10 percent of U.S. citizens, or about 27 million people, used the drugs in 2005, according to a 2009 paper in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry.

It's so widespread that animals other than shrimp likely suffer from these high doses of fluoxetine, the authors noted. (Get the facts on freshwater threats.)

"We focused on shrimp because they are common and important in the food chain, but serotonin is also linked to behavioral changes in other species, including fish," Ford said.

Ford believes that many other common prescription drugs—such as antiinflammatory drugs and painkillers—could also be causing problems for aquatic life.

But there are ways of protecting aquatic creatures from the drugs we take, Ford noted.

For instance, more public awareness about responsible drug disposal and better technology for breaking down pharmaceuticals at sewage works, among other solutions, could help to solve the problem, he said.

Nowadays no one in our village is planting anymore, and our only source is the markets... we kept our talent by choosing the most good looking and somewhat fresh... but there is no more seasons... we don't know the origin and how these plants were feed, kept alive or made hyperproductive... Chemicals? Sewage? Pesticides? Insecticides? Radiation?
It is absolutely right that many cancers went undiagnosed in the past centuries, but no one can deny the burst of cancers this century...
I'm moving back to my garden... planting and eating... I know that the quantity is not enough, and the atmosphere is indeed polluted, the rain not pure anymore... but I believe that the taste is different... try it and you will see...

Many ones have tried to analyze the world’s most devastating crisis… Experts, politicians, journalists… but what about the poor people, which form more than 90% of the earth’s population?
A poor in these days maybe smiling more than the whales of Wall Street and the sharks of the European bourse… he is not investing with his millions of dollars, not because he fears the markets, but because all what he has is 10 dollars (and even surely less) to live during the day with his family!
He is not going to lose, because he has nothing…
It is not a big difference to him if the Euro-Dollar exchange is going up or down… also he knows very well how to starve many days, and just live on the bread and some olives…
What a huge difference!
Some people are crying now for losing some millions of dollars, just some… and they still have too much… and others cried there life more than enough, until they have no more tears…
The entire actual crisis is about pushing every government to pay them back from our money; because they really need help, and it is impossible to leave they go down… the governments have to defend the world’s money system!
Yes! They will pay them from taxes!
Taxes system, which is made to take from everyone, the very rich and the very poor, to give to the entire nation, will be used to help the rich!!
We didn’t ever see the governments that exited to help the poor ones???
Can we ask why? Or our question is just as important as “how much we have”?
What a real joke?
What is this system? How can it be that good, and he leaves the world’s treasures in the hands of less than 5% of the earth’s population?
Where were they when every poor family was starving? I’m sure they were eating their caviar and smoking their pipes, all from the interest rates everyone is paying them because he does not have enough cash…

Yes! They never thought about how I do feel, but I’m not happy because they are passing in this situation, and I’m not surely asking for revenge… I will not hide that I have a strange feeling in my heart…
They will be okay, I know it… they will adapt just like every human being…
Yet, I’m always wondering about the difference between someone who has one million dollars and another who has one billion! Will they drive two cars in the same time? Will they wear two jackets at the same moment? Will they watch two televisions in the same second?
My life is surely hard, but I live in honor, and I’m not that stressed about the bourses… I just keep walking and smiling…

Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions.
Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.
When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe.
Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.

We always forget!
This days’ style is pushing us to lose our consciousness!
We don’t stop being in hurry… as if we are running away from something?!
Is it from death or from our inner fears?!
Why don’t we wake up to see that death is everywhere?!
Why don’t we understand that an inner fear will not leave our heart… until when?!
There are just two drugs… one of them is the fear’s compatriot… death…
Don’t you prefer to ask about the second one?
The other drug heals from both of them… it is so simple and priceless… the faith…

How far are we from it?
Sometimes, we don’t stop thinking… we want to do everything by our own power… we walk, and surely we fall… we stand up again, and we start crying while saying “what to do now? God left us!”, But never ever we understand that God is always near, even more than the earth on which we failed!
How could we stand up without him giving us a hand?!

While writing this yesterday, my portable computer shuts off alone… without any order! You can’t imagine the rage I had, just because of fear, as I didn’t save what I wrote?! Then I asked myself this question: what happened to me? Is it a trial? And I calmed down and answered myself: no fear, what was written is saved in my heart, because I believe and I will always do so… (The file was auto saved in my computer... my rage was for nothing)

In the era of super materialism, and simply away from every civilization, the heart looks forward to meet the forgotten peace… It is for sure a hard probability to find it under a tree, but still the fact of seeing something else may help to get out from the dead circle… It may shut off the same boring life’s scenes…

Isn’t amazing to see everything on twilight, because it makes you concentrate and appreciate more? That’s why I like every afternoon…

It is not true that heaven cannot be reached by a human being… what this human have to know is that he has to be simple… to go down and hear the silent song of peace… if not, he will be stuck in the lost humanity houses, dead by the noisy sounds of cars, planes, wars and money…

Assure yourself… heart’s peace does not mean loneliness at all… and especially it does not need to walk around without purposes…

It is the time to go and get the fruits… the taste of life is incomplete if you don’t use your head and thereafter your hands…

Even an orange can give us a lesson… it contains surely more than sugar and vitamin C… Inside of it exists one million stories, where the biography of sun and rain melted with the earth is written with celestial letters…

That’s how we meet a new year, while no one place in this world is safe…
The dormant cells of terrorism are everywhere, and our leaders’ treatment is surgical… more wars to cut it off, then more blood and surely an eternal revenge…

Living in the desert does not mean that I don’t have a sky… it is sufficient to go out of the tent of materialism to see that there is still shining stars in the dark days to not say at night…
Shy?! Maybe you can say that!
Afraid?! Also you can say that!
I’m shy from what and afraid from whom?
Shy because talking about God is a taboo, while talking about everything else is widely accepted!
Afraid from losing some friends who don’t want to hear at all… while friendship is not just a “hi, how are you?”… And if my “friend” will not accept my faith, who will do it?!
Still, these are not a reason… not an acceptable one…
I don’t want to be shy, and I will no more be afraid from anyone…
I don’t want to be thirsty for a light in the faraway, while the sunlight is in my hands…
I lost a war, or many wars even, but I will not lose this battle (of peace) for any reason…
One day I decided to read the entire bible… I read a big part of it, but while reading long time ago, I had a feeling that I will die the day I will finish it! I don’t know what does this feeling mean, but It took me, and my readings became slower and slower… to be nil today…
I didn’t know that I will not die if I finish it, but I will die only if I don’t accomplish it…
